Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 30, 2026
Overview
wristAmp ("the App") is a music player for Apple Watch that connects to your self-hosted Plex Media Server. Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what data the App accesses and how it is handled.
Data We Do Not Collect
wristAmp does not:
- Collect, store, or transmit any personal data to our servers
- Use analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs
- Store your Plex credentials on any external server
- Share any data with third parties, except for the crash reports described below
Crash Reporting (Sentry)
To detect bugs and improve app stability, wristAmp uses Sentry for crash and error reporting. When the App crashes or encounters an error, a report is sent to Sentry that typically includes:
- Stack trace and error message
- App version and build number
- Operating system version and device model (e.g. "Apple Watch Series 9", "watchOS 11.2")
- General app state at the time of the crash (e.g. whether a download was in progress)
- A randomly generated install ID (not tied to your account or Plex identity)
Automatic crash reports do not contain your Plex credentials, tokens, server addresses, library contents, or any personally identifying information. Sentry may incidentally collect your IP address at the time of the report. For more information, see Sentry's Privacy Policy.
Optional Diagnostic Report
From the "Diagnostics" section of the App's settings you can manually send a diagnostic report to help troubleshoot issues. This report is only sent when you actively tap "Send Diagnostic Report" and confirm the dialog — it is never sent automatically.
In addition to the crash report fields above, a diagnostic report includes:
- Network connection state (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth proxy, cellular; bandwidth and signal strength where available)
- Your Plex server's address, name, and version
- Battery level and memory usage
- A short diagnostic PIN you can share with the developer so the report can be matched to your message
- Recent in-app log entries (up to roughly 100–200 lines). These may include the address of your Plex server as well as titles and IDs of recently played or loaded items. Plex tokens and credentials are never included.
The full log content is shown directly below the send button on the screen, so you can review exactly what will be transmitted before sending.
Diagnostic reports are sent to the same private Sentry project as crash reports, accessible only to the developer of wristAmp. This data is never sold, shared, or forwarded to advertising or analytics networks, and does not leave the Sentry platform.
Data Stored on Your Device
The following data is stored locally on your Apple Watch:
- Plex authentication token — stored securely in the Apple Watch Keychain to maintain your signed-in session
- Server connection details — your Plex server address, stored in local preferences
- Downloaded music files — audio files you choose to download for offline playback, stored in the App's sandboxed document directory
- Cached artwork — album and artist images cached locally for performance
All locally stored data can be removed by signing out of the App or deleting the App from your Apple Watch.
Network Communication
wristAmp communicates directly with:
- plex.tv — solely for authentication (PIN-based sign-in) and server discovery
- Your Plex Media Server — to browse your music library, stream audio, and download tracks
All communication with Plex services uses HTTPS encryption. wristAmp does not operate or control any intermediary servers. Your music data flows directly between your Apple Watch and your Plex server.
Children's Privacy
wristAmp does not knowingly collect any data from children. The App does not collect data from any user.
Your Rights (GDPR)
Since wristAmp does not collect or process personal data on any external server, there is no personal data held by us to access, correct, or delete. All data resides solely on your device and is under your full control.
If you have questions about your data in relation to Plex services, please refer to Plex's Privacy Policy.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
